Tom DNA:

Research

It started with my birthday.  My wife got me 37 marker kits from Family Tree DNA for both Y and MtDNA.

If you think you are going to solve all of your family tree mysteries with a DNA test save your money.  It does give some general information about where your ancestors came from and it matches you with others that have a DNA match.  Most of my matches are probably dozens of generations removed.

I'm hoping that more Vallelys do this to compare with my DNA.  We can tell if we are cousins or if we are even from the same group.  I suspect that all modern Vallelys are related to some degree back to the 1700s but there is no way to know for sure without DNA.

The Vallely DNA belongs to haplogroup R1B1B2 which I'm told is old time Celtic.

My MtDNA is U5 which is one of the oldest European groups.  Since my mother's father's family is Welch that could also be Celtic origins.
