   I'm still looking for my specific ancestors on a specific ship.  I know that: 

John Vallely and Rose McKendrie were in Scotland in 1855.  Their three year old son Charles died in Scotland that year. 
The 1861 census lists them living at in Lanarkshire. 
Rose died June 18, 1867 in Whitburn, West Lothan, Scotland 
John died in 1880 (not sure where) 
John's son Hugh married Bridget McLain in 1867 or before 
Bridget McLain was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 
It is possible that John Vallely never came to the U.S.

	Updated information. I found that John Vallely, the son of John and brother of Hugh sailed on the Caledonia from Glasgow, arriving in New York December 23, 1867. He was 25 years old and lisded as a miner. Still can't find Hugh on any ship. He may have sailed into Philadelphia but would have probably had to sail from Glasgow. He was still in Scotland in 1861 according to census data and was married in Philadelphia by 1867.
